Tulian Lake Trek

The Kashmir Valley in India has a stunning walking route called the Tulian Lake Trek. The walk begins in the charming mountain town of Pahalgam and leads through lovely meadows, thick forests, and clean valleys. The journey’s high point is arriving at the breathtaking Tulian Lake, which is situated 12,000 feet above sea level. Awe-inspiring views of the surrounding countryside are available from the lake, which is flanked by snow-capped mountains. The route provides a chance to get to know the welcoming Gujjar community and learn more about local customs and culture.The Tulian Lake Trek is suitable for both experienced and novice trekkers and is a must-do for all nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts who want to explore the beauty of the Himalayas.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Pahalgam - Tulian valley

You will begin your early-morning trek from Pahalgam to Baisaran, heading towards Tulian Valley through Kanimarg.

Up until you reach Baisaran, which is approximately a 1-and-a-half-hour walk away, you may witness lovely green meadows and grazing fields on the somewhat strenuous trek.

You approach a deeper forest, whose tall trees barely let the sun reach the ground, before arriving at Kanimarg, the trail’s first rest stop. Here, you can take a short break and replenish your supplies.

After a little moment of relaxation, you will advance once more across the forest’s rugged terrain until you reach Tulian Valley.

Day 2: Tulian valley - Tulain Lake - Tulian valley

Today is Lake Day. After a healthy breakfast, begin your walk early on this day. You’ll be climbing towards Tulian Lake. See the ever-beautiful Tulian Lake after a 2-kilometer walk. The lake looks to be the finest surprise of your life, with the lake’s turquoise hue and shimmering mountains in the backdrop. The lake is a bit of heaven nestled among the mountain ranges. It is shaped like the number eight. Enjoy the lake by wandering around its shores. Spend time by the lake and have lunch here. Return to the Tulian Valley campground after lunch. Stay here for the night.

Day 3: Tulian valley - Pahalgam

This is the final day of the journey. You’ll have to return along the same trail from where you started your trek to reach Pahalgam. This concludes the journey.

Essential Requirements

  • Proper hiking boots with good grip and ankle support
  • Lightweight and moisture-wicking clothing suitable for trekking
  • Warm layers such as a fleece jacket and a down jacket for chilly nights
  • Waterproof and windproof jacket and pants
  • Sun hat and sunglasses
  • Sunscreen and lip balm with SPF
  • Insect repellent
  • Headlamp or flashlight with extra batteries
  • Trekking poles for stability on uneven terrain

Health Requirements

  • A healthy resting pulse rate should fall within the range of 60 to 90 beats per minute.
  • The ideal blood pressure range at rest is between 75-85 for diastolic and 100-130 mm Hg for systolic.
  • A normal resting respiratory rate is between 12 to 20 breaths per minute.
  • The absence of conditions such as Diabetes Mellitus, Bronchial Asthma, Epilepsy, Heart Problems, Very High Blood Pressure, and other illnesses is desirable.
  • There should be no issues with liver or kidney function.
  • It is preferable not to have a pacemaker implant.
