Tarsar Marsar Trek
Tarsar Marsar Trek is a well-liked hiking route in Kashmir, India, the Tarsar Marsar Trek is renowned for its spectacular alpine lakes and mountain landscapes. The two high-altitude lakes Tarsar and Marsar, which are situated at an altitude of almost 13,000 feet above sea level, are the inspiration for the trail’s name. The trek covers a distance of about 32 kilometres. Before arriving at the lakes, the trail travels through dense pine trees, high altitude meadows, and rocky terrain. It begins in the Aru Valley. From the Tarsar Pass, the trail provides breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, notably the Kolahoi Glacier. The Tarsar Marsar Trek is a challenging but rewarding experience for any trekker, and is a must-do for anyone seeking an adventure in the picturesque Kashmir region.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Srinagar - Aru
Afternoon meet at our office in Srinagar and drive from Srinagar to Aru Pahalgam 108 Km. Aru is a beautiful village hamlet that has mesmerizing beauty, refreshing environs and extremely hospitable people.
Day 2: Aru - Lidderwat
The trek begins from Aru and takes you through a 11 kms gentle ascent towards Lidderwat which becomes our camping site for the night. Lidderwat is a beautiful meadow with 2 gushing rivers, one flowing from Satlunj – a confluence of 7 glacial streams and the other from Tarsar, converging together at the base of this beautiful camping spot. Lidderwat is also a heaven for star gazing as on a clear nights sky you can divulge into the vastness of our galaxy like never before.
Day 3: Lidderwat - Sikwas
Next morning after breakfast in the pretty meadows of Lidderwat we begin ascending towards Sikwas which is about 7 kms. This becomes our base for the night. After a filling lunch followed by a reviving rest we take a tour of a the pristine Zadsar Lake 2 Kms from Sikwas and nestled in the midst of barren mountains like a hidden gem.
We return to base at Sikwas and stay the night.
Day 4: Sikawas - Tarsar Lake
We start our day with a scrumptious breakfast in the middle of beautiful mountains at Sikwas and embark on our next quest which is the Tarsar Lake. Located at a distance of 5 kms from Sikwas and an elevation of 3760 meters, this pristine alpine lake becomes our campsite for the night.
Day 5: Tarsar Lake - Sundarsar Lake
An early morning chill is compensated by the mesmerizing beauty of the Tarsar Lake with the sun shimmering on its crystal blue green waters. After a hot breakfast and tea we start our trek to Sundarsar Lake which is 7 Km from Tarsar.
We setup base and after lunch we take a tour of the beautiful Marsar Lake located at around 1 Km from Sundarsar where we return to stay the night.
Day 6: Sundarsar Lake - Lidderwat
After breakfast at Sundarsar and experiencing a magical morning like none other we begin our descent back to Lidderwat which is around 11 to 12 Km. We setup camp at Lidderwat and enjoy a relaxing night before our last day. We gaze the starry night and delve in the mysteries of the universe.We setup base and after lunch we take a tour of the beautiful Marsar Lake located at around 1 Km from Sundarsar where we return to stay the night.
Day 7: Lidderwat - Aru
Head back down to Aru Pahalgam 11 Km from Lidderwat and drive back to Srinagar.
Essential Requirements
- Proper hiking boots with good grip and ankle support
- Lightweight and moisture-wicking clothing suitable for trekking
- Warm layers such as a fleece jacket and a down jacket for chilly nights
- Water bottle and personal utensils including Mug and Spoon
- Waterproof and windproof jacket and pants
- Sun hat and sunglasses
- Sunscreen and lip balm with SPF
- Insect repellent
- Headlamp or flashlight with extra batteries
- Trekking poles for stability on uneven terrain
Health Requirements
- A healthy resting pulse rate should fall within the range of 60 to 90 beats per minute.
- The ideal blood pressure range at rest is between 75-85 for diastolic and 100-130 mm Hg for systolic.
- A normal resting respiratory rate is between 12 to 20 breaths per minute.
- The absence of conditions such as Diabetes Mellitus, Bronchial Asthma, Epilepsy, Heart Problems, Very High Blood Pressure, and other illnesses is desirable.
- There should be no issues with liver or kidney function.
- It is preferable not to have a pacemaker implant.
